DIY Cupcake Toppers: Part 1

This is a tutorial for how-to create cupcake toppers for a celebration. You will learn how to use your computer to create the correct size and shaped text to be used to tailor make cupcake toppers for any occasion. These can be used for any holiday or celebration because you create the text or images you want.

Supplies:
Part 1:
  • Your computer & printer
  • Microsoft Word
  • White paper or cardstock.
Part 2 ( Coming Soon)
  • Circle paper punch 1 3/8'
  • Scallop paper punch 2'
  • Glue
  • Scissor
  • Toothpicks
  • Construction paper or scrapbooking paper.

Step 1: Open Up a Microsoft Word Document. Click on Insert> Shape> and click on the oval shape. Then move to your screen and click and draw your shape.

Step 2: Adjust the size to fit your paper punch. My circle punch was 1 3/8 so I changed the diameter of the circle to be 1.45. This way, I can guarentee that I won't see the outline, but the text will be visible after it is cut out.

Step 3: Change the color of your circle by clicking Format> Shape Fill & then Shape Outline.

Step 4: To add your text, click on Inset>Text Box. Click it over your shape.

Step 5: Type in your text. You will notice that your text box has a black line around it. To get rid of that, click on Format> Format Shape, and change the outline to no line.

Step 6: Then adjust size, alignment, color and font to suit your taste.

Step 7: Hold down your mouse and highlight your shape and text. Copy, paste, and drag your images to a new spot. Do this as many times as your need to.

Step 8: Print out your document.

Want to add a picture?
Tip: To add an image with a white or clear background, follow the procedures for adding a text box. Then Insert>Picture and insert the image right into the text box. Drag the corners to resize the image so it fits well.

Check back for Part 2 for how to cut and assemble the cupcake toppers.
